File collections In comparison with FTP-sites, file-sharing does not offer any way of indexing files. That's one of the reasons why a lot of releases don't appear in file-sharing networks. A part of the problem could be solved by adding a way to group files via an index of file-collection. Say, I have a collection of my own music; I would like to offer a list of those files to the file-sharing community. This way, people can have a look at 'my' files (maybe with some added description and/or links) and make their pick based on this collection. Ofcouse, this can also be used to collect all kinds of files (tv-series, albums, books-on-subject, books-by-writer, etc.) Two problems remaining are: 1) who has the right to alter/extend a collection 2) how to update the local version to the most recent version of the file-collection (auto-refresh?) I can see this requires a lot of work, but the main idea is to apply some of the principles from the world of FTP-boards to file-sharing, resulting in more efficient searches. |
