categories xolox users

Make the program automatically categories it's user (from A to D), depending on 2 things :

- How many megabytes the specific xolox program have uploaded to others in the last 2 weeks.

- How many gigabytes the user is sharing.

Your rating should always show in the preferences.

When connecting to another (xolox) client - a A user should have a some advantage in getting a transfer going, compared to a D user.

Hopefully, this could be a way to deal with freeloaders !!

But...

I happen to be one of the millions of people who are stuck on dial-up service without any options for broadband... your idea might prevent freeloaders from connecting to you, but it will also make it so broadband users will ALWAYS have a priority over modem users. So while I may never get a chance to download anything popular ever again, broadband users would have no problem connecting to me...

Of course xolox shouldn't block a 'D' user (ex : a modem user with nothing to share).
Just (to some degree) prioritize a 'A' user more, when negotiating for a transfer.

Get the people to share, and we all would win - modem, cable & adsl !

I agree. A feature like this, is really needed - just look at the statistics :

so, kick the little guy to the back of the Q as long as the the big guys get what they want without others cluttering things up. i dont think that the 'sharing' ethos is best served by anyone with this attitude. otherwise all we would be able to find is top ten chart stuff. what about people who are looking for more obscure music or software and are also willing to share obscure material. it may be weeks before anyone d/ls does that mean they are not entitled to their rightful place in the Q and should be shunted to the back by kylie, westlife and robbie fans?

NOOOOOOO!!!!

If ANYONE ever tries to use this type of control in ANY P2P software, I'll give up on P2P and go back to surfing warez / pirate sites to get my software. (Still faster than P2P anyway, just harder to track down stuff and weed out all the porn ads.)

it would be nice if anon and joachim were to have a rethink..........

freeloader option would be OK

Like Limewire has. Just give the user the option of not sharing with people that have less than x amount of files. Say, 25? Anyone can share AT LEAST that many files. But don't use anything too complicated cause god forbid you guys sure seemed worried that everybody out here is stupid.
