Other audio formats are safer: mp3, m4a, ogg, etc.
I'd recommend getting a decent player with in-built codecs such as one of these: 1.

Excellent advice. Any program that wants you to download something to view or listen is trying to stick you with some form of information gathering. The exception to this would be codec's which change all the time.
