These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. 10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit. 13. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

| The fact you can't access port 6346 at all is a major worry! It is a possibility your isp may have blocked it. 1st let's try something simple. Whilst LW is closed, delete the LW prefs folder; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire Then open LW & give it some time to try to connect. If not working go to File menu & disconnect, & a while later choose connect. If that doesn't work, lets try a different port number. First try port 6342. Go to LW's menu Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & type in 6342 in the listening port option box. Press Apply button. I'm not sure if needed but it might be best if you then quit LW & re-open. If it still won't connect then see alternative port to try here: Firewall & Port Setting - Some Useful Links & look for link that says Alternate ports See how that goes & get back to us about how things go. By the way, how many computers are on your lan? Is LW used on any of the others? It just occured to me, try this test on the other computers on your lan: Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say ‘Test Page was a Success’. What happens when you go there? Last edited by Lord of the Rings : March 8th, 2005 at 08:09 AM. |

| Use the link I gave to find other alternative ports you can use. Try something outside of the 6**** range. Try this ne 1st: 1234 Alternative Connection Ports - Information |

| Don't forget if you have windows firewall enabled, when you switch ports you have to allow LW full access to the new port settings. Don't forget you also have to configure the firewall to allow TCP and UDP access.

| LW certainly can be. It's not so much LW as Java being not very memory efficient. Some hints to reduce memory: Set your downlds for auto-clear. Get rid of search results that are a few hours old. Don't resume many files using the resume button (at least not many simultaneously.) Close any window you'e not using at that time (eg: Connections, Monitor, & Library windows) by using the View>Show/Hide. Reduce uploads to about 70 or 80%. Disabling Ultrapeer capabilities under Options>Speed will help. Keep LW hidden/minimised when you're not in front of computer. Let LW settle before using after opening. Don't use LW's media player whilst it's very busy. Perhaps use your default player instead. * By the way, which port did you use to get LW to successfully to connect? This might help other people. It sounds like your isp has started to block ports generally used for p2p. They might have only applied it after they detected you were using p2p. ISP's can be very sneaky b/c they'll never tell you they've done this. |
