Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Question PROBLEMS STAYING CONNECTED - doesn't appear to be firewall issue

Limewire 4.9.7 was working just fine - could walk away from the computer for an hour and it would still be downloading and searching when I got back.

A few days ago, all of a sudden everytime I walk away from it even for just a few mins, I get that error message too, saying I'm not connected, and there are no longer ANY green bars - all are red. I have to click - File - Connect to get back on.

It picks up again, but I should be able to at least go potty without losing download progress, especially when it was FINE just a few days ago.

And adding to the problem, when I do get back, other files won't reconnect - they just keep saying "waiting for stable connections", but when I do the search, the files are right there with more than a dozen users. I will click them in the search window to start downloading again (has broken file icon by now) and it says Already Downloading, but that's no longer true. And I get no message about firewall and since no changes were made and it was working fine for weeks only until only days ago, that doesn't appear to be the problem.

The only way for me to get those downloads is to delete them from the download window, and the library both, then start All Over Again .

Again, there were no problems only a few days ago, and I've changed nothing in the firewall programs, so there's no Obvious reason I can see for the problem.

I even tried updating to the latest version, Limewire 4.9.11 and nothing changed (and yes, tried rebooting too). Also, I tried running virus scan from the website just to keep Internet Explorer open and connected, but still after only a couple of mins, IE is still working uninterrupted but LimeWire is not (so apparently the problem is not my internet connection). Nothing seems to correct this.

Can someone help please?????

Please??

Thanks in advance!

This may or may not help but try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire or if you're a mac user you'll find them here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire OR Linux: ~/.limewire

Question

I'm using Windows XP SP2 (updates are current).

Don't know what my Java version is - not quite that computer literate.
So I haven't tried step 1.

Tried step 2 - No Change.

Step 3 - says not to use on versions later than 4.4, and I've updated to 4.9.11 (I was using 4.9.7 when it started), so haven't tried that.

Step 4 - No Change

Step 5 - Already logged on as Owner/Admin

The exact error message is as follows:

"ERROR! Your machine does not appear to have an active internet connection or a firewall is blocking Limewire from accessing the internet. Limewire will automatically keep trying to connect you to the network unless you select "Disconnect" from the File menu."

Again, it's puzzling because I changed nothing with the firewalls and Lime was running perfectly for weeks until a few days ago, though I did update virus def's a few days ago. But it will connect and work fine - until I leave it alone for a few mins, then it pops up that error message, then of course the files that were downloading are now corrupt and I have to start all over again, as mentioned in the initial post. That's what doesn't make sense.

Any other ideas?

Should I try using an older version (can I get one if yes)?

Thanks

Question

Ok, I don't know about the router, but I have additional info that might help further evaluate the cause.

It seems to be connected to the monitor, whether it's Lime's software or a setting on my computer that needs to be readjusted I don't know. Hopefully someone can help, please.

So here's what else I tried:

In Control Panel, Display Options:

- Tried just turning off the option that the computer would shut off after being idle. No Change.

- Tried turning off screensaver. Seemed ok, until I turned off the monitor so the image wouldn't burn into my screen (computer still on and connected)
[this time, I noticed that's when those connection problems came up again - when the screensaver kicked in or the monitor was turned off.]

- Left the screensaver off, monitor on and it's been fine for almost half an hour.

So, I am wondering how to make it ok to shut off the monitor or let the screensaver run (thus saving my monitor) without interrupting the Limewire software - how to not have those connection problems anymore just because of the monitor.

Any help please?????

Thank you very much!

ps. to Mor; no problem - if this can't be resolved, I might be looking to install an older version myself, so it's all related. Thanks.

One other quick question - what does "Waiting for Stable Connections" mean exactly?

I've seen all the other stuff defined in the FAQ's/manual, but not this particular phrase. I don't know if that particular phrase is related to the problem I'm having or if it is something unrelated, more having to do with hosts or what.

Thank you very much in advance.

Ahh yes the old video/graphics issue you might check out the link below these people were not having the exact same problem but I think it is the same problem so the solutions may help.

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=39600

Also you may want to try configuring your screen saver to none IE right click on your screen click on properties scroll your options for scren saver and chose none and see if that fixes the problem. If you choose the option of none it will just have a black screen when the screen saver comes on thus no image to burn into your screen.

Question

Later, I will try to do a restore for at least a week ago (after I get everything backed up). The others didn't seem to apply.

As for the screensaver, it doesn't matter if it uses a blank screen for a saver - still the same problem. So far, it seems the only way to not lose the connection is keep the monitor on and the screensaver off altogether, but that's bad for the monitor.

Will post again later after I get to try the back up and restore.

In the meantime, if any other ideas come to mind, please feel free to share. Would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Edit: Even just turning the power off the monitor manually still causes the same problems. Doesn't make sense...???
