Default BS shuts down when downloading

hey guys. bearshare shuts down whenever i try to download anything. music, movies, whatever. i get a really long message that says this...

Error: Access viloation at 0x0056A83F (tried to read from 0x47575A56), program terminated.

Then, it shuts BS down all together. I've read in a few places on the net, that Bellsouth and Comcast are emplimenting new technology that blocks P2P signals. Is that what is happening here? It happens on both networks for me. I use Bellsouth at work, and Comcast at home. I use an old version of BS, because I don't like all the JUNK and malware that comes with the new versions. I use BS 4.3.5 version. It has always given me lightning speed downloads until about 6 months ago, then, this started happening.

I've figured out that if I turn the speed way down, and set my download users to 3 or 4, it will let me download. So, I'm thinking that my ISP is blocking the signal. Any ideas on how to unblock this, or set up something that will let me download without getting blocked?

Better test with the 5.1.0b25 version to see if it wasn't an old bug we squashed years ago.
A handy side benefit is vastly improved performance and the ability to force it to ultrapeer mode.
(Not to mention that the betas all came out free of adware.)

Also, you haven't mentioned what version of Windows you are using, but if it is XP Service Pack 2
you should go here and download EventID 4226 Patcher. 4.3.5 wasn't built for SP2 because
it came out long after we released that version. ;]

Thanks for the beta version. I randomly found that from one of your earlier posts and installed it yesterday along with the starter you provided. Thanks for that! I have noticed that the searches aren't as good, and I don't get the screaming speeds I used to get with the old version. For instance, if I looked up a song by U2, I used to get thousands of hits, but, with this version I got less than a thousand. And, I also noticed that when I was downloading, the speed was only around 300k, even though I had over 20 connections downloading. Any way I can speed things up a little? Thanks so much for your help!

Peerless and Aaron, THANKS! so much for your pointing me in the right direction with this. Upload speeds are back to lighting fast! Thanks for the tip on the UP thing. Just mahvalous!

Coincidentally, anyone know how to get rid of pop-up virus/adware? I've run every program in the book, and I still got em. Combofix, AVG spyware and anti-virus, Microsoft Malicious file scanner, Spyware detector, and maybe more programs than this, but, these I ran for sure. STILL GOT THE DAMN POP-UPS! If you can point me to a web site that can help, it would be much appreciated. I posted a Highjack This log, and my Combofix log on geekstogo.com, and no one responded with any help, so, if you know of another place, that would be great. I'm SICK of these annoying pop-ups...

If you're referring to the occasional ad that comes up after you start BearShare, go to the
Windows Control Panel and start Internet Options. In the Security tab, click on the Restricted
Sites icon, then click on the Sites Button. Add *.bearshare.com and *.fastclick.net to the list.
