problem with ubuntu

Red face problem with ubuntu
when I try to open synaptic I get this: E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
can someone please help? I'm new on this

Open a terminal window, copy & past the suggested command, then hit the "Enter" key.
