Default GWebCaches almost dead (GDF-quote), a new bootstrapping emerges

Fine, is it OK then to turn them all off tonight?

Jens, I thought you had turned yours off a while ago but I have been happy
to see it still around.

There are certainly a lot of clients out there that are still relying on
some GWebcaches to survive. Even the non-beta LimeWires still rely on a
shaky list of GWebcaches. Ideally, GWebcaches could return to health if the
burden is taken off them but I don't think that this will happen before
there is a total meltdown. We have had a partial meltdown for months.

LimeWire clients will likely survive but this should be a major wakeup call
for developers. Either provide a default set of GWebcaches that you can
ensure will be able to handle your load or implement UDP Hostcaches ASAP and
get them out into the field. We are willing to provide a UDP hostcache
server (once we finish developing it) but we are not interested in having
everyone use our personal one as their sole bootstrapping source. This
presumes having UDP capabilities in your client with the ultimate goal of
making Gnutella clients into UDP hostcaches as well.
