Did you do a SAFE Start & Repair Permissions after installing LW? It's always wise to repair permissions both before & after installing softw. Otherwise strange things can happen & odd behaviours.

If it still keeps doing it, install Java from the Standalone Java installer Many people have complained of odd things since updating to OS 10.3.6 which suggests issues whilst updating online.
