Note that developments on MacOS9 have stopped now. The newest versions won't run on MacOS9 because it does not support the Java2 platform (and Apple has also stopped supporting Java on MacOS9).

So unless there's a third party implementation of the Java2 platform created for MacOS9, I really fear that MacOS9 will no longer be able to upgrade. This has been announced on the Limewire web site. Unformtunately the new features in LimeWire do require support for the Java2 platform (i.e. version 1.3.1 minimum), with true multithreading.

The current LimeWire sources don't compile now on Java 1.1 or Java 1.2 supported by MacOS9. Having to support this deprecated Java version for so long has become a nightmare in the Limewire development, and a major cause of bad performance on all other platforms with the newest features.

All we can suggest is to upgrade to some version of MacOSX... But you may need more memory or more disk space to support it.
MacOSX has been released already many years ago. No Mac have been shipped by Apple with MacOS9 since now very long.

Even the most basic Mac sold today would outperform your existing Mac hardware. With the new tiny Mac box sold without keyboard and screen, you can get a Mac at a very competitive price that will support MacOSX. Just buy a keyboard (less than $10, and a standard VGA screen...) and keep your old Mac for your wordprocessor or emails... Enjoy the new fastest Limewire on this new Mac...
