Try starting from scratch then.

1. Double-check your Norton firewall. See Configuring Norton Internet Security

2. After opening LW wait 10 to 20 mins before using. Let it settle down 1st.

3. Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue!

* Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. Do you run on a network & if yes are there any other p2p programs used there on yours or other computers? (Even if you're not on a network.)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

(a) It looks like a Java issue. If you re-installed Java & it hasn't fixed it, then perhaps you should look at a different version of Java. Some versions of Java run better on some people's systems. Try Java 1.4.2 from the link I gave in my 1st reply. But 1st uninstall Java 1.5 using the Add/Remove control panel. Also, save the java installer to your comp BEFORE installing it, don't install over the net!
(b) If Java was unable to access your preferences location, then perhaps it might be related to admin priviledges issue. The admin of the comp should install LW for you into your home account & give you permissions for use. If you are the admin of your computer, then perhaps you should uninstall LW & re-install it. To uninstall it, go to Start menu>Programs>Limewire>Uninstall. When you re-install LW, save the LW installer to your computer before installing it (also make a backup of the installer to an external device like CD-R/RW for ease of access later if needed.)
