Well IMO the biggest problem is WMP10, but putting that aside, try checking your sound card settings, and make sure it's not set to digital audio only.
Other than that I'm not sure. I use WMP9, and only when I have to.
You might think about an alternate player also. You can search the forums, but I've heard winamp, dbpoweramp, and vlc are decent alternatives. BTW those players metioned have free download versions. These can also be googled.
I use winamp and vlc as alternate players when needed.
