I have to confess I've never attempted to downlded such videos with subtitles. But if they they had subtitles & were encoded to include them then they should be accessible. I can show where the subtitles can be set for VLC (image below.) If VLC can access subtitles for such videos on windows then it should also apply to Linux & Mac. (Also see the advanced option.)
Java for Windows can be re-downlded from the following sites:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp (take the JRE) but there is a further update for java 1.5 You can search the Sun site for it.
