I understand that you're using Outlook with a hotmail account?
Hotmail has always been dodgy with Outlook, it's a HTTP service, and Outlook should only be used for POP3 or IMAP mail services ideally.
You'll either have to just one or the other I'm afraid, or just get used to the Sent Items problem
