Only A Hobo is a great assister to others; your light through the dark tunnel

hm I'm not sure with Windows.

Apple have the following article, which should help

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711

I had this problem for a time on Mac and it might be just a matter of rebooting the computer or plugging the iPod in a few times, or resetting the iPod.

It might be a damaged cable. Is there another one around you can borrow. How long have you had the iPod? Is it fully charged? Do you get the ipod icon on your desk top, or wherever it usually shows up on Windoze.

It might be worth looking at the apple forums, but I don't advise posting there as it is not exactly easy imho
