There's different variations of mpeg 4. You have divx, xvid, 3ivx, etc. Each is a variation & has differences. The 2 that iPod will use are strictly mpeg 4 & H.264 which is another mpeg 4 format.
Which platform are you using? Mac OSX or windows or Linux?
