Well one suggestion is to change compatibility mode to win 2k, another not mentioned is to try win NT. Also, try uninstalling all your Java versions & reinstalling using ONLY the Offline version JRE. Use the link I gave above.
But I would recommend deleting your LW prefs folder between each attempt at opening LW!!!

BTW depending on your graphic card, switch AA to application controlled.
