tech support was right (and typically frustrated )

There was a way in the old version of LW that allowed files to open a browser (like Internet Explorer) and send the user to a page. This was useful for legitimate links, but really was rarely used.

Scammers found out, loved it, and started flooding the network with their spam

LimeWire developers and others disabled that code in the new version.

So, the files that have those links are still there, but the new LimeWire won't respond.

See? the problem was with the type of files, not the software.
