You are probably right about "double clicking" on an incomplete file will not corrupt it but why take the chance? I just feel that "double clicking" could be disruptive to the download process and/or the file in its unassembled state.

As for VLC, of which I am still using the previous version, I have found that if you download 10% or more of a file VLC will read it.

Finally, I agree with your idea of copying and pasting an incomplete file into a different directory/folder before you start to experiment with it, as Newbee2 found out, the download will fail if LW perceives that the file has changed.
