I can see a couple of issues that may be causing this to happen...
When you uninstall limewire you need to use the limewire uninstaller, you will find this if you go to Start > All Programs >Limewire...If you still have that option uninstall limewire again and re-install it using the offline installer (not the recommended one)...

Also another problem may be you Java, there has been a few issues with the Java 6.1....Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....(4th one down)

Also another issue I see
is your ISP..Tiscali are known to shape p2p users at certain times of the day...I think you may have popped up on their radar as a heavy downloader and that could explain why your connection seems to be worstening...
