Hey birdy - thanks a lot for all your help. I know my machine much more intimately now.
I finally was able to connect to limewire by turning the modem's firewall off. It is working well on both computers now. I don't know if it was off or on when I was able to get limewire before, but it was set to on. I'm hoping that the other firewalls on my system and antivirus will be sufficient security.
