Thanks for the suggestions.

I followed your recommendations, and while the 1st one (deleting the Limewire folder) didn't seem to solve the problem, your 2nd solution, starting in Windows 2000 compatibility mode) worked like a charm.

For the benefit of future readers, here's the fix:

Right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and change compatibility setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version.
