Now, if "just" means under 12 months then you should go back to Dell for an answer, they do have a help desk.
I also understand that Dell have a way of engineering their PCs that makes them difficult to upgrade and, from working on their PCs some years back, their HD are loaded with (specialised) drivers.
Saying all that, I would guess that the sound driver might have become corrupted so first port of call would be to download a new driver from Dell support. And furthermore, you will need to work out which drivers you should reload and the ones you can safely discard.
