you reformatted the HDD eh?...that of course means you had to reinstall the OS...I'm guessing you didn't install the drivers for the sound card...I'm also guessing you didn't install the chipset drivers for the MoBo...you can choose to visit windows update and do a custom scan for updates, and among those I bet will be drivers for the sound...I don't think there will be chipset drivers, but possibly....

or as ukbobby points out, you may have to go to Dell's website and download and install their proprietary drivers, and hopefully they will have the chipset for that specific MoBo...and any other drivers associated with the way that system is supposed to run...
