tabbydahl,

Make sure that LW's still being allowed through your firewall (I didn't know that Win 98 had it's own firewall).
Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See post #7 for instructions.

In LW file > disconnect. Wait 5 mins then file > connect.

Try the older version of Java mentioned on post #8.

If the fixes above don't work, go to the site below. Find your router model, click on that & then choose LimeWire from the list of programs...you'll find step-by-step instructions for setting up port forwarding.
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
If setting up a static IP's part of the instructions, don't miss that step. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router should all be the same number.

coryjeb,

It's not a good idea to run 2 software firewalls at once...they'll interfere with each other & you'll end up being less secure Pick one firewall, configure it to allow LW & turn the other one off.

Also try the older version of Java mentioned in post #8. Remember to remove any other Java versions before installing another one.

There doesn't seem to be a firewall in your modem.
If you still can't connect after removing a software firewall & changing Java, try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 65000 (or something in the range of 49152 - 65535) > apply > ok.
