There should be an option that limits the number of downloads from the same remote agent (same IP, same port): these downloads should be queued in the downloading LimeWire agent, so that it won't break or slow the existing downloads in progress from the same remote sharing agent.

I think that some remote Gnutella agents consider that multiple requests from the downloading agent are considered as spams, and these download attempts are blocked indefinitely in LimeWire which does not implement a policy to avoid this blocking effect (these remote Gnutella agents do not report any BUSY error for multiple download requests and simply drop the connection abruptly, even if there was an existing donwload in progress).
