In XP, I've had the best success using the [DEMO, or BASIC] Application "Burn 4 Free."
It will show you a green bar, if all [73 +/-] popular songs will fit. If you place a 74th song, the bar goes Orange, or finally, RED. You need to set it on about 2.5x,--not the fastest-- burn speed. Later, try a really fast burn speed and see if it's OK.

If you start with RAR-files, you may need to use their 'Pro' version, or resort to some other de-compression tool, as this 'CODEC' domain is where the problem you describe probably lies.
