Junk search results I've noticed an increasing sophistication by junk spawners. When I search for music, Limewire will show a plausible "hit" (like with album and artist info) with the only giveaway being that the "song" is always 5,611 kb and you can't browse the host.
It would be nice if LimeWire could implement a system-wide virus removal policy whereby it would periodically solicit or upload user's "junk" IP addresses and if some addresses seem ubiquitous, e-mail them (if possible) to tell them they are transmitting a virus and how to remove it.
If such nagging fails, or if there's no contact info, or if the user's weak security allows re-infection, their IP address should be entered on a list of "bad" ones that are banned use of LimeWire. Again, such users may be unaware that they harbor a virus, so if a "bad" IP address tries to use LimeWire, it should get an error message explaining why he/she's being denied access, and a link or e-mail contact how to get rid of the virus and remove his IP address from the "bad" list. |
