Default Searching & Search Results Question

I am using Frostwire 4.17.1. I downloaded it and it's working just as good as the previous FW, whatever version that is. I like the new tabbed search buttons and how they scroll through each search tab, which is a lot nicer than the previous version and what seems like Limewire's standard search method (popup window of all searches, with for some reason is painfully slow)

Anyway my question is probably nuanced. It's related to search results (or the lack thereof). I get OK search results and I'm not compliaining. I switched to FW because it returns about twice as many results as Limewire (I'm on a Mac running 10.5.5) and FW just generally seems more reliable. I recall, though that when I was running Bearshare on Windoze back in the day (pre-2000) it returned literally thousands of search results. On FW, I'm lucky if a keyword generates a hundred search results, sometimes its more like 5-10. Granted I'm on a totally different internet connection and that was a long time ago, but shouldn't the search results get *better* over time, not worse?

I can return more results if I'm willing to quit FW and restart (probably under different hosts). The problem is if I'm in the middle of a download for a file I really want, I have to wait for that file to finish (which could be minutes or hours, depending on the size of the file and the connection speed).

Also, this seems counter-intuititive, but I receive fewer results when searching if I'm connected as an Ultrapeer. Shouldn't I get *more* results? This makes no sense to me.

I am not a freeloader. I don't share everything I have, but I do have a fairly hefty number of files that I'm sharing and also allocated some bandwidth for uploaders.

Is there some tweak I can make to my setup to return more results? I'm considering dumping my current internet connection and going to DSL, which is now available in my area. I'm allergic to Comcast, which is the only other option for high speed connections.

Thanks
