LW seems to have problems saving to an external drive for some reason. I guess it depends whether it is permanently connected & what type of drive. But that should not affect LW opening.

I have same problem. I cannot run LW 4.18 on my main account. So I installed OSX on a different drive, LW 4.18 runs fine on there.
