the queries are in regards to an internal CD/DVD drive.....

a simple Google search for 're-detecting CD drive' gives plenty of results..since I've never had this happen I refuse to give exact advice, especially when it comes to manually editing the registry....

I will say that if the drive is functional it should show up in the BIOS of the machine...some playing around with the BIOS might work if something happened at that level to corrupt the BIOS settings (possible bad CMOS battery), but such endeavors are not for the weak hearted and should be approached very carefully unless you are familiar with your BIOS or BIOS's in general
