May I ask how much RAM & spare Hard Disk Drive space you have?
Blank menu issue I've seen is usually a java issue but can be RAM & perhaps cpu related also.

Also try this, click on the menu & it will be blank then close, then re-select. I found sometimes selecting a second time the menu showed correctly. Might not for you but worth trying
