Have you tried opening the same movie in VLC? Does it play ok? If yes, go to the information window whilst the movie is playing & see which codecs the movie uses.

My guess is the movie uses a more up to date codec than the ones installed on your system for Media Player to use.
For example, the movie may have been encoded using X264 which is a more advanced & continually developed version than the general MPeg 4 H264 format.
You may need to get a more up-to-date version of the K-Light Codecpack.
