Also I am very often wondering about something I call for myself 'degraded' language, eg:
(sum 1s spelling b4 u r l8), (I mite ov felt sawry for u if yoo had nevr called sum usrs "stoopid dumb@$$". Tuf luk pal.) and the like. It is going so far that I am beginning to skip posts with too many things like 'cuz' (because?), u r, kewl (cool?), l8 (late?), ** (night?) ppl (people?) and the like.
hm ... i agree and disagree *g* some abbreviations are ok to use, just to shorten things. a lot of people aren't very fast at typing. ** l8 and ppl are quite self-explaining, aren't they (you're interpretations were right)? i don't use them, but don't have a problem with them either. the things you wrote about above that are just people who can't write proper english i guess a lot of them also think it's very cool to write that way. just don't care about it and skip messages being full of this. the abbreviations at the top of your message (IMHO etc.) on the other hand are quite standardised internet-abbreviations. i had a good link to explanations of them but haven't found it yet. i will post it here, if i find it ...
