Following on from the threads about failing to connect to a server here's a trick that seems to works for me.

If you use a modem connection be sure to dial in to your ISP *before* launching Gnotella.

I find if not although the prog launches a dial up connection it dosn't seem to recignise it and 'sticks' at the stage of showing 'connecting' as the status of all hosts.
