I have had great problems ever since installing microsoft explorer 6 beta. To be exact, limewire 1.4b would crash, and limewire 1.5 would just exit with an unintelligible error message. (I use win 98)
One fix I have found which works for me is this:
Install limewire 1.5
Then uninstall the java jre 1.3.1 which it installs for you.
Then download java 1.4 beta from sun.java.com
Install this java jre
Go to the limewire shortcut on the desktop
go to its properties
replace in target "C:Windows\System\javaw...." with ("C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.4\bin\javaw.exe" -cp . RunLime)
Type everything inside the brackets excluding the brackets but including the ".
If you have installed java elsewhere, then use it's directory.
Make sure the start in directory is pointing to your limewire directory.
voila!
The new version of java even allows mouse scrolling with the mouse wheel.
Only problem is that the GUI buttons look a little warped, but at least it works and is fully functional, and importantly, STABLE.
