Default Never had a connect problem with a PC but.........

With this MAC there is no connecting, WHY?
Macintosh PowerBook G3 Wallstreet 266 connected by ethernet to a 5 port switch (no firewalls hardware or software). This switch is connected by ethernet to a motorola cable modem ( supplyed by road runner. I've gone thru the entire help list trouble files (extremely vague by the way) no help. My IP is 24.208.15.253 assigned by DHCP, running Internet Explorer Mac 4.1. Gnutella is recognised and allowed by my cable service. My connection is working (I'm using it now). 10 hosts are showing (connecting ) and have been showing (connecting) for 2 days 11 hrs and serval minutes which will have changed as I type. Protocols are listed as 0.6 and ultrapeer, the search buttons are grayed out (any type, programs, video, ect.), and there is a green button at the bottom left corner. File is on search and it is the latest Lime wire (I down loaded and installed it seven times using the defaults offered). I've never had a problem on any PC, is it my Mac ? Thanks
