Yeah Microsoft and Java are at huge odds with each other, when I had problems with java based programs in windows I downloaded the newest java from java itself and only use their platform.... I know before when I used LW that this allowed me to use them. So try http://java.sun.com/getjava/ and see if this helps you out.
