Is it necessary, or preferable, to uninstall version 0.9.9 before installing Gnotella 1.0 ?

I remember when I installed version 0.9.9, there was a warning on the Gnotella site to uninstall the previous version. I don't find any such warning this time, bur I want to make sure.
