kulina--you may not have installed all the necessary pieces: try a clean install and redownload a fresh copy from here.

The other OSX setting that can limit connections is the built-in firewall. See Apple Menu-System Preferences->Sharing->Firewall->New->Gnutella/Limewire (6346).

btw--to completely remove LW, search for all files containing "limew" to find all the old pieces and trash them.
