It may take a few minues to get a connection going. Current connection information is displayed at the bottom of the window on all tabs. If there is no activity on the "Connections" tab, you can click the big connect button at the bottom of your screen. If there is still no connection, type 0 (zero) in the "Keep approximately x connections up" field and hit enter. Then try typing 1 or 2 and hit enter. If this is all to no avail or you are getting a port number error, there is another alternative. Some people have this problem regardless of what they do. It stems from a Java version migration that messes up some people's connection ability. This alternate version is slower and the system tray icon tends to disappear, but it should connect for you.
