These volunteers keep the board organized and moving. Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity) Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

The TechNutopia Fullsize Hostiles List for BearShare and LimeWire This is an expanded list for protection against spammers and other abusers of gnutella. Place the list in this archive, called "hostiles.txt", into the folder C:\Program Files\BearShare\db. The smaller copy already there will not be lost, as it is already built in to BearShare. LimeWire users: Place "hostiles.txt", into LimeWire's settings folder. On Windows : C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_NAME\.limewire Alternate location: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_NAME\Application Data\Limewire (You may have to change a setting in Explorer to be able to see this folder. Go to the Tools menu, then Folder Options, switch to the View tab and turn on "Show hidden files and folders".) On Windows Vista: C:\Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire LW Vista users - if you need help finding the LimeWire folder then please check this link for info: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista On Mac OSX 10.4 and up : Macintosh HD/Users/YOUR_NAME/Library/Preferences/LimeWire Expect a significant delay as BearShare starts up. Loading this list is the first thing it does, and apparently it has to convert it internally as it does so. Update - Feb, 18 2005: BearShare 4.7.0.70 and up now load the list almost instantly. Thanks, Ed! CPU usage will be higher if you are running an ultrapeer, but BearShare will stay in leaf mode unless you have a fast computer. If you find it too heavy a load, go to Setup/Service and put a checkmark on "Never become an ultrapeer" Update - Feb. 23, 2005: BearShare 4.7.0.71 and up now run the list more efficiently. Thanks again, Ed! ;] Update - July 12, 2005: A new bug in versions of BearShare (5.0 and up) makes older versions of the hostiles list block many innocent IP addresses. DELETE AND STOP SHARING ALL HOSTILES LISTS OLDER THAN JULY 12, 2005. Update - July 16, 2005: All LAN ranges are opened, so be careful about files from your own local network. Added about 8800 hosts infected with the prolific VB:CC worm. The source list for this worm will be rotated slowly enough for most of the blocked hosts to detect and clean themselves before they drop from the list. Those few that fail to remove it will roll forward to a longer term blocklist. The VB:CC list will probably stabilize to slightly over 10,000 for the next few months and taper off to near zero as people update their antivirus scanners. Update - September 26, 2005: More worms and trojans added. The list is now about as big as it will ever get, with 223,916 rules, and I'd need more RAM to make it any bigger. ;] Update - September 28, 2005: Catching up with a notorious spammer who just happened to change tactics as the list was updated on Monday. A coincidence, I'm sure… Update - December 4, 2005: Added many more worms and heavy spammers, with thousands of sites, but constantly improving intel results in a slightly smaller and more effective list. Update - February 1, 2007: Notice the name change? That's right, it's not just for BearShare anymore. LimeWire 4.13 and up can use this list now. Update - February 11, 2007: New Worm. It's still small, so get stomping! ;] Update - March 3, 2007: Skyrider (that new commercial P2P spammer announced last year) finally pops up on our RADAR! ;] Update - July 22, 2007: More info makes raw input top 800.000, but better intel shrinks the final result to less than half. Update - January 12, 2008: Continuing improvements in intel are still shrinking the list while covering more address space, and most of the worms that were a major problem a year or more ago are quickly going extinct. We're mostly fighting the last few desperate spammers now, and recent updates to LimeWire are helping stomp them out of the network. PLEASE REMEMBER TO DELETE THE PREVIOUS LISTS! They go stale and should be replaced often. Here's a web link to the ZIP file:TechNutopia Fullsize Hostiles List (Original out-of-date old version, date: 2011-06-12) …and another: TechNutopia Fullsize Hostiles List Edit by LOTR, the above hostiles file has not been updated since mid 2011 or earlier, thus a new updated version below: New Fullsize Hostiles list 2013 Download the Fullsize Hostiles List 2013 via 4Shared (need to be a 4Shared member to use their downloads) and the no Jap Block version via 4Shared. via SaberCat (recommended) Download the Fullsize Hostiles List 2013 via MediaFire - (If you wish to use an installer instead, find it either at MediaFire or SaberCat.) Now option to choose a Hostiles file which does or does not block most of the Japanese clients. Edit February 2013: a single installer is now inclusive of both options and for either standard BearShare or the BearShare 5.1 Beta Test version. The blocklist is updated approximately every 2 months. Edit: March: fixed a silly error in the installer. I must have been experimenting, sleepy and forgot partial code still there as one choice would not install an appropriate file. Filenames: BearShare - Hostiles Blocklist 2013 installer (both) Hostiles_2013-NoJapBlocks Hostiles_2013 The hostiles files have been put together in same folder as other BearShare material to download from. For details see here or here for the Japanese block choice. (If LimeWire users were to use this Netmask version of the hostiles, you should change the name from Hostiles to hostiles (all lower-case letters.) Otherwise the file is ignored.) Windows 8 or later users will either need to use the installer or else, change the permissions of the BearShare program folder and reboot computer so you have permission to replace items in the program's db folder. . Where to install Referred here from forum. I am trying to put the hostiles list in for the first time. I do not find Bearshare I do not find a settings folder in Lirewire I have hidden files shown. I am using Windows XP Home. My original post in another forum was a question about whether blocking very small file hosts in search results really does any good, or do they replicate under new names. Thanks. |

BearShare is here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=53386 LimeWire 4.13 is here: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml (LimeWire versions older than 4.13 do not use the Fullsize List.) Some of those worms change names very often. The developers are working on ways to block them too, but for now the Fullsize List will partly block them. |

Hostiles List Thanks. I saw that this is a BearShare forum and I will move this post. I have the latest Limewire. I just don't know where to put the hostiles file and can find any that you all have listed. I'll put this post over on the Limewire board. In my Limewire file I have: 3 folders - Network, Themes and XML |
