so bs pro is owned by the people from free peers. did free peers have the choice of not selling bs.i wouldnt sell it. why dont free peers just make a look a like of bs like limewire did with frostwire

Free peers does not exist anymore. They are "no more".
The iMesh guys own everything that Free Peers used to.

there is spyware in the installer? how do you know when it phones home?

AaronWalkhouse June 11th, 2006 10:38 AM

My firewall catches it. Before the iMesh guys got involved it never did that. ;]

garbagefan2 June 11th, 2006 10:52 AM

if my mcaffee firewall catches it will it still try to phone home? and will it download safely? im going to make the iMesh guys speechless. im going to send them a letter saying why did you include spyware in bearshare? and what website do they try to phone? i can try to block that site. and how do i block websites?

AaronWalkhouse June 11th, 2006 12:35 PM

If your firewall catches it then you get a chance to allow or deny it.

Looks like Lite let's you do that, but the Zango in the regular version, which
calls back to a rental rack for small/mid size business in Israel, will balk there.

So, just check the mark to make it a rule and block it.

They might just be taking a count, but they should put that info up front by
putting up a minibrowser on a local page, inviting you to drop in with a click.

If they had forums, for example, something for people to go to… ;)

so bearshare lite doesnt have zango. and if i block the phoning home than nothing will happen it will dl safely. so no one wont spy on me. what if my firewall doesnt detect it? what firewall do you have?

AaronWalkhouse June 11th, 2006 01:55 PM

I have a creaky old Kerio you can't get and don't want but there are still
several free ones that are strong enough for BearShare. I think Kerio still has
a trial version, where all the advanced privacy and script functions eventually
quit or go into default modes but you still get a strong firewall. That's what
I'm using now, an old simple trial version that, free of the bells and whistles
already in new browsers, runs fast and strong at all times.

Now that I think of it, this thing is getting pretty old. I wonder what's new
out there? I see ads for something called Outpost here and there…

i got two firewalls to protect me althought i have to disable one. i have mcaffee and windows. i just finished installing service pack 2. is that strong enough? and what does it try to phone? i will try to block the sites it tries to phone

AaronWalkhouse June 11th, 2006 05:24 PM

Why not run b25 instead? At 50 connections per download and 999 total plus
the ability to go into ultrapeer mode on demand, it's better than Pro.
