i tried to download a video on limewire and it didnt work. WHY

Because sometimes the files are corrupt. Happens to the best of us. Beware of file extensions and the size of video files. and always have an anti virus cleaner running while downloading.

3. Make sure you have the correct codecs to play the video file. Get GSpot. Also get VLC (has in-built codecs) as a backup player; CODECs list and alternate players for Movies

I've downloaded plenty of videos from limewire...music videos, episodes from shows...has never gave me any problems. But since I've got dial up it takes forever....
