download problem

hi frns, it so happened tht there was a power failure when my downloads wer going on n so, my syatem had an illegal shutdown. now, if i start limewire, the old downloads can't b seen.seems like the downloads.dat and the downloads.bak file got modified. so i went to the library/ incomplete tab where i found all my old partially downloaded files in red color. i resumed all of them, only 2 c that they ahv started to downloaded frm the beginning ie frm 0%. now this is frustrating as as many of my partially downloaded files wer almost complete ie, nearing 100%. pls help.

Windows is very subceptible to damaged downld preferences if the computer crashes or LW isn't shutdown properly or you jump back to a much earlier LW version or the downld.dat/bak file is removed. There's nothing you can do about the files restarting at 0% despite their file size. Red in the incomplete folder generally means they've lost their partner in the downld folder or they've lost relationship thus or are no longer seen as the main incomplete file (perhaps have multiples.) That's to explain it simply (but roughly.)

But resuming as you've done will get them back to the downld window & eventually, with some search help you can get them going again ... be it from scratch.

thanx for the information boss. i'm now saving the download.dat & bak files whenever i can as i dont kno when the power is gonna go here in hyderabad(India). may b this vud work out

That sounds wise if you have such problems. Backing up the downld.dat & bak files daily or every few hrs might be a good idea in those circumstances. If you lose power, LW will need to be "closed" before you replace the download.dat & bak files with the backed up ones! (Reminds me of being in Vietnam ... power going off was a common happening.)
