Arg no connection now...help?? Longtime LW user, started using LPE about a year ago with no problems. Running 5.6.2 LPE. Now it seems maybe since I have updated Java to 1.6.0_35 (running windows 6 ultimate) I am in a steady connection lag. (Connecting, no result). I have run the LPE fix, uninstalled, reinstalled multiple times, waited for days with no connection. I've created the .jar shortcut to no avail, and have read about as much of the forums as I can without going nuts. I am no programmer... I know there is a huge checklist but I was hoping this was maybe a recent issue and someone could give me a magic fix. Thanks all. :bangh: |
You should only need to do the .jar shortcut if you are using Java 1.7 That was a simple workaround to get LW 5 working with Java 1.7. You can verify which version of Java LW is using via the Help menu -> About LW. Try this: re-install Java 1.6, but before you install, right-click the Java installer and choose to 'Run as Administrator'. This seems to overcome some connection issues. You could also set the LW shortcut to Run as Admin. also, though this part is not so important but might help. ;) If the Java installer says you already have it installed, then choose option to reinstall. Else, uninstall the Java first. Direct Java 1.6 Update 35 'Offline' download link |
Thank you for the reply Lord, but still no dice. Any other ideas? |
Have you tried these things http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html such as disabling some of the advanced performance options? At least until you are able to connect. Another option is to see if you can get FrostWire to connect. Another option I rarely mention to Windows users is to try an alternative computer account or set one up, if only just to see if LW will connect. If yes, then something is amiss with your main account. Sometimes people install or update security software and the side-effect of this is LW is blocked somehow. LW may need to be put on the exception list of one of them that might be causing the issue. Other than Java, have you updated anything else or installed any other software between when LW last worked and now? It sounds like LW worked fine a year ago but not now. Have you tried deleting LW's preferences folder? Saving the downloads file before you do if you still have incomplete downloads. When you open LW, quickly go to the Tools menu -> Advanced Tools, and check to see if LW is actually trying to connect. Or is the window blank? Also, does it say you are behind a firewall on the top left side of that same window? |
Well Frostwire works fine. I guess I will try and learn this new program. Anything I should know about it going in? Searching for MP3's brings up videos on Youtube which is kind of annoying. |
At least that's good news you are still able to connect to the network. So there is probably some kind of issue with your LW set-up, not your router or ISP. Unfortunately FrostWire is also a magnet for known spammers, ie: LimeWire 4.21.1 (RC) which is really an adapted frostwire version for spamming. In your firewall, add dual incoming and outgoing port block rules for port 27016. This will help to block a percentage of them. I intend to do a blocklist for FrostWire at some stage, but it might not be for another month or two. This will block the known static addresses of organisations that are paid to try to give gnutella users a hard time. It will not block all spam but will block a lot of spam and DDOS attempts by them. Actually my idea in you trying Frostwire was (1) to make sure you could connect to the network outside of LW. (2) if FW is able to connect, then perhaps try LW again. But it depends on which program you prefer. FW is very similar to LW 4 and lacks a file size filter for search results. And yes, FW included a lot of other stuff I was never interested in. File_Girl71 might be a good person to ask about how to avoid that other stuff. I rarely use FW myself, unlike FW's early days when I enjoyed using it. Which version of FrostWire are you using may I ask? |
5.3.9 Thanks for the tips. I am using windows firewall and I dont see that option setting however. |
ooh ok, so you are using the bittorrent version only. FrostWire 5 is a torrent version only, whereas FrostWire 4 used both the gnutella network and torrents. ;) It was just over a year ago FrostWire announced they were becoming a torrent only program and were leaving the gnutella network. Their older version 4 will do both torrents and gnutella network. If you are using FW 5 you will not need the advice I gave you. But if you were using the gnutella network, you would need to access the firewall's advanced settings to ban ports. |
I'm running into can't connect again myself and have followed the steps not finding any luck. I am running Java version 6, build 1.6. Would this have anything to do with it? Is that to old to work with limewire PE anymore? I don't think I have changed anything on my computer to cause a sudden "No Connection". Always worked before. I've had no luck for over a week now. Thanks |
Have you tried the deleting of LW preferences folder trick? Backing up your LW preferences downloads file at same time. Also obtain a new LPE connection fix for fresh connection data. It's been updated several times recently. Java 6 should be fine. I connected well with it a few days ago on Windows whilst testing 3 versions of LW 4. My LPE Windows and Mac also connect fine. If you have not used LW 5 in 30 or more days you will definitely need fresh connection data because LW will auto-delete it otherwise. If you are using Vista, Windows 7 or later, then you may need to reset the Java to be running in Administrator mode by finding the Java.exe file and getting its properties and set to run as admin using there instructions. For some strange reason, this seems to have a huge impact on connecting if using the later Windows versions. If you are not sure how to do, you could always re-install the 'Offline' Java 1.6. Download the file, right-click the installer and choose to 'Run as Administrator'. My pirate limewire wont connect '; have the courts taken us out again ??? |
Have you tried the connection fix as posted here (first fix in the list)? http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html You might have to wait a while to connect... it can take 5 - 10 minutes ;) And if so, have you tried any of the other connection fixes in that thread? If nothing there has worked for you, please post back with your system details as per this link: System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!! :) |
Thanks once again L O R! Yes it probably has just been 30 days or so but the LPE connection fix isn't doing it this time. I am running Windows 7, I made sure Java and LPE was running as admin. Also the normal usuals on the list. I now need to do the LW preferences folder trick if I can figure that out. |
Even with the LPE connection fix you need to obtain a fresh one if you previously downloaded one more than 30 days ago. Otherwise the connection file it will install will be over 30 days old and same scenario. I know how to fix this on Mac OSX but not windows. File_Girl71 provided a small file that should help protect the connection file if LW5 has not been used in 30 or more days. LimeWire-FiX2.zip |

Not for me, it's around 53 KB and has LimeWire-FiX.exe inside which is about 70 KB after unzipping. I just downloaded and checked. Oh I just realised, because i zipped it on my mac you will get a MACOSX folder inside. Ignore that folder. The LimeWire-FiX.exe file will be beside it after unzipping. I don't see the OSX folder on my Mac, only if I unzip it on Windows. It's just easier for me to zip on my mac. Easy and quick, as the zipper is built into the system. What LimeWire-FiX will do is help prevent LW deleting your connection file if LW has not been used for 30+ days. |

1 Attachment(s) Try this one, it was zipped on Windows 7 and not XP or Mac. I noticed the properties of the previous copy suggested it was a rar file despite being a zip. So much for freeware compressor packages. Sorry for the inconveniences. I'll replace the first copy also. |
My limewire 5.6.2. Wont connect to the internet ; when i right click on limewire and click on open file location i get this message ; a fatal error has been detected by the java runtime environment ; exception access violation ; what should i try next ???? |

Might be an idea to uninstall LW and try re-installing. Also set Java to 'Run as Administrator' if using either Vista or Windows 7 (or later.) You can achieve that by finding the Java.exe file and right-clicking and choosing the option. Otherwise reinstall the Java with the Java installer set to 'Run as Administrator'. You can also set LW to 'Run as Administrator'. This was usually recommended for Vista, so might be helpful for Windows 7 (or later) also. One way was to set the LW installer to 'Run as Admin.' If same problem, try changing LW's compatibility mode by right-clicking the LW shortcut and choosing Properties. Perhaps change to XP or something similar. Depends on which Windows you are using. |
What happens when I enable Windows Remote Assistance? To enable Windows Remote Assistance, you select the Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer check box on the Remote tab in System Properties. When you select this check box: You can send and receive Windows Remote Assistance invitations using e-mail or a file. You can use instant messaging to correspond with the person you are helping or who is helping you. Windows Remote Assistance is allowed through Windows Firewall so that it can communicate with your helper's computer. The Teredo service starts. This service allows your helper to connect to your computer using most routers (wired and wireless) that perform network address translation (NAT). The service contacts a Microsoft Teredo server to get an IPv6 address for the remote connection. This check box does not affect Offer Remote Assistance settings on enterprise networks. Note To enable Remote Assistance: Click to open System. Click Remote settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Select the Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer check box. See also What are the risks of allowing programs through a firewall? Was this information helpful? Read the privacy statement online THANK YOU LORD BUT I NEED REMOTE ASSISTANCE ; CAN YOU HELP ??? |
The most common remote assistance program is TeamViewer, but by using it you are giving the person helping pretty unlimited access to your PC. So you need someone you can trust, since to fix any connection issues you would need to share an admin rights account that allows any changes made to your connection settings. TeamViewer - Free Remote Control, Remote Access & Online Meetings Usually it's mostly used in a corporate environment, but it's free for home users. I unfortunately have no free time to help. I even have to go to work today (Sunday) :( |
Ok , no problem . I understand . Do you have 2 jobs ?? |

well THERE IS THIS 30 DAY RULE WHICH I WAS UNAWARE OF ; I HAD LW OFF FOR ABOUT 60 DAYS AND NOW I JUST CAN NOT GET IT TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET ; I HAVE FIXED MY JAVA PROBLEM AND DELETED MY LW PREFERENCES FOLDER BUT STILL NO LUCK . |

You will also need a fresh connection file. LPE ConnectFix.zip which nowadays includes the above LimeWire-Fix2. So just download this file and follow the instructions. ie: install the LimeWire-Fix2, then the LPE ConnectFix, and make sure LW has an exception in your firewall. :) Do not panic if LW does not connect the first time after using the LPE ConnectFix. Leave it running 20-30 minutes. If no connection then re-start LW and leave it running an hour or so. If still no connection then use the LPE ConnectFix again. |
The LPE connect fix file you good people just modified Oct. 12th, Did the trick! It works well and quick. Thanks very much!!! |

(LPE connectfix.zip) I'm going to need it again darnit. |
Try any of the links in the top part of the Windows Connection Fix portion of this thread http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html. Ignore the dates in that post, I often forget to update the post. The connection fix installers should be good to use again for at least 2-3 months. Maybe double that. I last updated it start of year. |

It's the second link you listed here that worked for me. (LPE ConnectFix.zip) This is the one that did the trick, it now shows the file has been removed. The others listed on "If LW 5 will not connect" did not work for me back in October and I just tried them all again. |
Did you have your limewire turned off for more than 30 days sleepy ??? |
What you do need to do with the connection installers is use them last and make sure LW is closed and not sitting in the tray (check task manager if necessary.) Ignore File_Girl's LW-fix. With exception of 4Shared, I do not usually quote the direct download links to the connection fix installers because every time I update them, the download link changes. I usually quote the folder link address. The folder link never changes even if I update the files within the folder at the upload site. (I need to be a paid member of MediaFire to be able to update the individual files without the link changing. MediaFire support gave me nice instructions last year on how to update files but I realised I don't have those options.) |
Thanks LOTR. I will go through those again. I always do completely close Limewire yes. That one link you had up there Oct.12th did it for whatever was/is wrong with my set up though. I'll keep trying. And Yes runt66 I was off for at least 30 days plus I had to get rid of a malware bug called "object error" very popular lately for explorer users I hear. So I had to do a big cleaning. I'll get this thing figured out one way or another. |
Had you installed File_Girl's LimeWire_Fix2? I have had doubts it works as it is supposed to. ie: it is supposed to turn the computer clock back (for just a few seconds) to the modification date of the connection file whilst LW is opening . The one I created for Mac OSX connection installers and LimeStart definitely works, but it changes the actual file's modification date to today's date and time. |

Up and running now through the 2 step program. Note: MediaFire Mirror is the only server of the 4 listed on the LW5 fixes active. The other 3 say "files have been removed" or something like that. |
Thanks for the heads up. All the links except Hotfile work. For 4Shared you need to register there to download. For FileCloud you need to disable any ad-blockers or else it will send you to a registration page. In the meantime I will fix the Hotfile link. I must have accidentally posted the direct file link instead of the folder link. 179 downloads so must have happened recently. You never answered, had you used File_Girl's LW-Fix2 before this connection problem? I need confirmation about its reliability. |

ALSO: The FileCloud server shows zero files listed, and yes all blockers were turned off, I double checked. |
