Post Connecting behind firewall with port filtering

Has anyone successfully been able to connect to the gnutella network behind a firewall that filters almost every port except a few like port 80? Also, is it possible to connect to the gnutella network through port 80?

I think the limitation or solution to all your questions depends strongly on what type of firewall you have (hardware, software, both). Once that information is known, then it would be possible to appropriately give you solutions specific to your case. I run my firewall behind a linux router/firewall using ipchains or iptables depending on what system I am working on at the time that I am on the net.

Default Firewall Issues

The firewall is a hardware firewall of which I have no control over. It filters out outbound traffic on the gnutella ports like 6345.

The only client that will surely allow you to connect will be GTK-Gnutella (if you're running linux) - since that supports HTTP Proxy. A couple of other clients support SOCKS proxy, but most private households don't have access to one.

Default Kreigger88 is Correct

This hardware firewall solution is not necessarily a lost cause. I have configured many hardware firewalls and routers. This hardware doubles as an ip router, also? Right? Tell me what type it is, unless it is controlled by a university or any other organization that has not entrusted you to fiddle with their computuer assets. I don't like to think of myself as assisting any one in cracking. I'm a hacker(programmer) not a cracker(script kiddie?). If this is a personal component of yours or someone else that trusts you with their computer "stuff", I will help. That said and done (covering my posterior anatomy), give me the make and model of your hardware firewall. As far as I know, all hardware firewalls and routers are configurable.

I used to run SlavaNap(software much like OpenNap) on 56k dial-up. The I got RoadRunner Cable and I could not have users login to my server. One of my programming friends helped me open up my ports so I could have users login and other SlavaNap servers link to me

Make sure your ports are not blocked
