The option "Keep approximately xx connections up" is flawed. I can set it to 2 all day, and it will obey it for a while, then revert back to 3 maintained connections (while still displaying 2 in the dialog box). I've seen this go in the opposite direction also, where I set it 6, but after a while it's only maintaining 3 again.

![]() Depends on your connection speed and what window version your are running. your sockets are limited like 3 to 4 where Nt up Xp have over 100 Sockets. This will limit your connections up no matter what you do. but if not the case and this was fine a few days ago then this might be a bug in the logic Hope this helps J Last edited by JJJecj71-Jay; December 28th, 2002 at 10:12 PM. |

Does this apply to Linux as well (number of sockets)? I've seen the same thing happen on all the Linux clients that I've used.

I hear Linux is a good OS but could be limited/bandwidth could have something to do with it, you might want to post this in the Linux support forums cause I'm just not sure with Linux OS http://www.gnutellaforums.com/forumd...php?forumid=28 Or Linux Center here: http://www.portalux.com/ |

Happens on MacOS X as well (6 connections set, jumps back to 3 after a while). Not sure if platform-specific.

Where are you getting all these connections? When I tried to set it to six, the program told me I was limited to four so as not to overcrowd the network.

The number of connections is limited by your speed setting. The faster the connection, the more hosts you can connect to.
