I would assume that your school's network administrator preemptively blocks gnutella traffic because pupils are not supposed to use the school's network for swapping music and porn.

I figured since I was using my own computer (laptop), that I wouldn't have those kind of problems...I didn't even know they could configure the actual service to block downloads...I know I wouldn't have been able to do so on one of their computers but...anyhow...Ursula what do you mean by using a different port? Like just finding another docking station in the library? I'm sure I'm not the only one at my school to ever have attempted this...Maybe I'll just ask a friend of mine if I can use her DSL...hmmm...oh well I'll figure something out...Thanks everyone...

In the options, you can set LimeWire to use a specific port for incoming and outgoing connections. It's normally 6346. Remember to change both incoming and outgoing port.

It is possible that the network administrator at your school is blocking that specific port. In that case setting LimeWire to another port might help. However, chances are that they're blocking all ports except the ones needed for essential services like surfing the web. In that case, you need to access the internet from elsewhere in order to use LW.
