I've never had problems with Limewire using ADSL Telus in Western Canada. Two weeks prior to Christmas, the program refuses to even start up. Dead in the water. I bought another version on Christmas eve thinking I needed to upgrade - same situation. I am feeling lost without sampling what music I may want to buy.

I have been able to download from limewire since Xmas. If anything it has got faster in the last week.

I've used two ISPs with LimeWire:

Speakeasy DSL specifically states that they aren't blocking any ports, and specifically allows running servers and P2P applications. I was using SpeakEasy until the cable company came out with a better deal for landline phone than any phone company could come close to matching, so I had to drop to landline, which meant dropping DSL. Actually, cable is way faster than DSL around here (NY Metro).

Optimum Online (cable) prohibits running servers in their TOS/AUP, and they consider running a P2P client that shares files to be a server. If they notice that you're running a server (e.g., LimeWire), they don't do any port blocking but they have been known to impose a 150kbps (~15KB/sec) upstream cap on your data connection if they feel that you're abusing the network connection (mostly on the upstream side of things; they don't seem to notice as much if you're doing lots of downloading (it should be noted that the current cap for OptOnline users in the NY Metro Region is 10Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream). If you intend on sharing files, I'd suggest setting the max upstream rate within LimeWire to somewhere around 25kbps, and half that speed during business hours (e.g., 7am-9pm).

Will Someone give me a list of modem providers that will let me connect. please? O yea i have no clue about computers. Exept that i can download things from the internet. So you might have to talk me through it.

National Techinal Support: Limewire is a psp file sharing application and we no longer allow them on our network, we block them for spyware reasons and because of illegal copyright infrigement.
Me: What do you suggest I do then?
Techinal Support: We can't provide you with that information ma'am we don't recommend any file sharing because it's "illegal" and a secuirty risk. You have a nice eveing.... (hung up)

Me: Funny how porn of every shape and description is all over roadrunner and how yahoo spyware detects at least 30 adware hits durning 24 hours but you as a corporation go through such great lenghts to ensure the security of your network

Any ideas for a dsl/or cable provider for high speed in NC other than time warner or statlitte. What ticks me off is they know they own the market here and can get away with this.

BT Broadband, NTL and BulldogDSL work fine

Anybody in the Great Lakes states know anything about whether or not Millenium Digital Cable blocks file sharing apps?
